- Health, family and union are the greatest wishes for Christmas 2022
- The Post Office has reviewed hundreds of letters delivered to Santa by children and adults from all over the world. world
Every year, the Santa Claus Post Office receives over half a million of letters. Located in the Arctic Circle in Rovaniemi, Santa’s hometown, this is Finland’s northernmost Post Office. In the weeks leading up to Christmas, the Post Office receives up to 30,000 letters a day. Over the years, Santa Claus has received more than 20 million letters from 200 countries. Young people and adults, mostly between the ages of 8 and 25, pour their wishes into letters written to Santa Claus asking for the most diverse gifts, from trendy toys to hotfoot in the world. The data collected from the letters delivered in 2022 identified three main themes: health, family and union. “The letters received reveal the emotional reality that we live in today’s world and demonstrate that loved ones and the little things, like spending time together, are the things that matter the most,” commented Jenni Ihatsu, Director of imprint and advertising at Posti. “In a historical era marked by a pandemic, civil unrest and climate change, it is important to underline the importance of these issues and remind us that wherever we live, people’s emotions and desires are very similar”.
The Post Office receives letters for Santa and his elves all year round. Those who love to immerse themselves in the Christmas spirit can visit the Post Office directly, meet the elves and even write letters to leave on the spot.
“Reading letters to Santa Claus is one of the best parts of our job. We like to bring joy to the whole world and it is fascinating to read people’s wishes,” comments Katja Tervonen, Head of Elves at the Santa Claus Post Office. “In recent years, letters have become less materialistic and more oriented towards family, togetherness and happiness. And this is the very essence of Christmas”. The most common themes found in the letters cards sent to Santa are:
- Rudolph the reindeer
- I believe in Santa Claus
- Does Santa Claus exist?
- Christmas Gifts
- Answer me please
In their letters, people not only ask for material gifts, but also show affection for Santa Claus, sending best wishes to him and his reindeer, advising him to get enough rest, and promising cookies and carrots when he arrives on Christmas Eve. Another very recurring question found in the letters is the classic: “Santa Claus, do you exist?” The most eager can even receive a reply letter from Santa Claus, as long as they include their address in the letter. Santa’s Post Office sends out approximately 10,000 responses each year. -End-
